About The Equine Agent

My name is Ellen Chapman. I am 33 years old and live on a hill in Leicestershire with my fiancé Philip (a farrier) and my two border collies.

I have my own small yard at home and carefully produce horses to be sold on to good homes. I generally take on nice youngsters, or horses who are misunderstood and need a little help on their way to a better life.  Me and Sully
I am a qualified riding instructor. (ABRS) I have taught at many riding schools although these days I only teach freelance private clients. I have taught RDA for many years and am also an RDA Group Instructor. As a young rider I was a keen to compete despite not owning my own horse. So I was paid to train and compete a variety of owners horses. I was determined to train my own horses and have my own yard one day! After completing a National Diploma in Horse Management I moved to Ireland where I spent three years, mainly working with show jumpers. I have worked in a broad spectrum of jobs in the equine industry. Everything from police horses to show jumpers and hunters to harness racers. I am a very experienced horsewoman although I must say, horses still teach me something new every day!

My main interest has always been equine psychology and bio mechanics. I have studied Equine psychology for years and I’m always fascinated to learn more. The key to training any horse is to understand what he's thinking, and why. I specialise in helping riders train their own horses, and understand behavioural problems to be able to unpick them and find a cure. I also have great empathy for riders who lack confidence. I fractured my spine while eventing, which ended my event career before it really got going. I had my own mountains to climb before I was back in the saddle kicking on for the big fences again.
For the past 15 years I have been training horses. My own and clients horses. I enjoy starting youngsters correctly, and re training horses who have problems. I love nothing more than establishing communication with a horse and then getting the right answers from him. That is as close as we get to talking with horses.

I use a combination of traditional and "natural" methods to train horses. I like to get to know the horse first and figure out what will work best for him / her. No two horses will have the same mind, so I adapt methods to suit temperaments, experience and ability.

I enjoy getting my horses out to regular competitions, but most of all I love to hunt with the Cranwell Bloodhounds.

I also love my job very much. It brings me emmense joy to see happy owners and happy horses having fun together. It also gives me great satisfaction to help horses with problems and find them good homes. I am very fortunate that I now live my dream.

I am fully covered by Professional Indemnity Insurance and have Public liability insurance.
