Perfect horse for saleTHE PERFECT HORSE Ladies and gentlemen, please understand and pay attention.
I'm sorry to disappoint you, but.......Newsflash......
.....the perfect horse does not exist! They are only as perfect as we are! If I had this horse I would have to clone him. He would make me a millionaire!
14.2hh to 16hh
Cob type or just not a thoroughbred gelding. Usually a weight carrier. Between 8 and 12 years old. Perfect in all traffic, even if he meets a procession of the largest tractors in the world on a single track lane, he will not flinch. A combine harvester in a dark narrow tunnel will not cause an ear to flick before he passes it without noticing it's noisy flashing thundering pony chomping presence. This paragon of virtue will carry a novice rider around a course of fences foot perfect and jump the most frightening fillers even when the rider is too terrified to use the leg. He will read the numbers himself and jump clear rounds as long as the "rider" can hold on. He is naturally balanced enough to carry anyone through a basic dressage test and disguise the riders faults by dazzling the judge with his own beauty and grace.
This lovely boy is an angel to catch, perfect to groom perfect to clip, even his ears. Perfect to shoe perfect to load and travel whether alone or in company. He will allow children to hang from his ears and tail. Any animal such as dogs sheep cattle of pigs is no threat to him at all, even if it runs at him with teeth bared while out hacking.
He will hack alone or in company, and never have a look at anything even if it's flashing with sparkly bits spinning above it. He rides in a snaffle at all times, but goes well off the leg so he doesn't make you look too novice by having to boot him along too much. Equally he is perfectly paced and will never rush or be strong or fizzy. In fact he has never done anything other than what was asked of him. Anyone can ride him, Grandma can hack him or Charlotte can event him. On the hunting field he is automatically perfectly educated and will give a lead over any obstacle, or is equally as happy to leave the field and find a route avoiding the jump. He will certainly look after his rider. He will stay mid field, at the back or take Charlotte over everything with the masters. He will hack home in the middle of a full flight line of hedges should you wish him to, cheerfully waving goodbye to his chums as they gallop on away from him. He is a teddy bear in the stable. His conformation is outstanding and he is not predisposed to any ailments at all. He is completely unblemished and has no vices whatsoever. He is too polite to even roll after a bath and will merrily gleam in the sunshine for his adoring owner to admire all day long. His feet are a good set of four, strong and healthy. He has never lost a shoe or had an abscess or a bruise. In fact his soles are made of something similar to Kevlar. He will happily ride and lead, with any other horse. In any weather. He won't even turn his quarters to the wind in a hail storm, just in case he frightens you because you didn't ask him to turn.
He forgives any mistake, carries any rider anywhere and is always dependable and reliable. Price, £ too good to be true, to a very good home. You may laugh and you may recognise some of this, but far too many of you are wasting your time and energy looking for this horse. NOW LISTEN, HE DOES NOT EXIST! FORGET IT!
If he did, do you really think somebody would sell him!!?
Horses are only as perfect as we are!
If this is the type of horse you are looking for, then you need to think about what you can sacrifice for the important aspects. For example; The horse may need to be perfect in all traffic. Perhaps you ride on a very busy main road. So good in traffic is a priority.
Perhaps then don't overlook a horse who has vices.
Perhaps your bombproof horse may crib occasionally, but you had dismissed him because he wasn't perfect.
If you are looking for a nice safe hack, then consider an older horse. If you want a big moving well schooled dressage horse, then don't expect him to be perfect in traffic if he spends most of his time in the school. Sometimes the perfect riding horse isn't such a teddy bear in the stable. He may be a brilliant comfortable well schooled ride and a perfect snaffle mouth, but doesn't appreciate a cuddle while he's eating his dinner. Neither do I ! The horse who doesn't hot up on grass, ever! Might just be a bit lazy. So for the sake of having to use your legs a lot, you can have your non lively horse. If you want a good hunter with plenty of experience, don't be surprised if he can't bend around a corner in a dressage test. He might feel terrible to ride in the school, but is mannerly and forgiving on straight lines across the countryside. Last but not least, beware of the horse who never spooks at anything. It's probably blind.
