Selling serviceWe offer four different levels of support in selling your horse.
An assessment visit is always the first step. Only after assessing your horse can we decide how much work your horse may need to be saleable (if we sell from our yard) and how to market him / her best and attract the right buyers.
We will only sell horses that have passed our assessment.
We are different from dealers or other "agents" in that we don't put your horse on a list and leave you waiting for months. We work specifically on your case to attract the right buyers and bring about a successful sale as soon as reasonably possible.
If this takes more work than you have paid for, then you still don't pay anymore than what you were quoted. *
We can sell your horse from your yard, or ours. During an assessment we will talk through your various options and discuss what you can expect to make from the sale. Call for a chat about our selling service. 07508 778955
Basic assistance 1.
£75 plus travel costs.
This method involves a visit to assess your horse and an in depth consultation on how best to sell your horse. During the assessment we will take photo's and go through a detailed questionnaire to gain as much knowledge as possible on your horse. (You keep the questionnaire which will help you in explaining your horse to potential buyers.) We will discuss the best places to advertise and how to achieve the best price while remaining realistic! We will talk about your various options for advertising and build an advert together which is a truthful and positive reflection on your horse. Prior to the consultation I will perform a brief buyer search to hopefully present you with a couple of possible leads when we meet. I will basically set you up to be able to market your horse yourself, targeting the right audience to attract the right person.
It may be that the consultation is enough help to get you on the way to re homing your horse. You will receive a lot of information and advice, as well as constant back up on the phone should you need it. This method is the cheapest option we offer in assistance to sell your horse.
However you might prefer more support, and less hassle!
Basic assistance 2.
£275.00 (Inclusive of up to £100 advertising costs.)
An assessment visit is required before we can begin this service.
I can advertise for you and bring the buyers to you.
This method includes Basic assistance 1, the consultation plus more support.
Basic assistance 2 involves me marketing your horse and attracting potential buyers. I will place adverts where I consider them to be most relevant to your horse, and I will circulate your advert to suitable clubs and associations. (Eg if your selling a hunter i will contact some hunt secretaries.) I will take all the calls and describe your horse accurately to potential buyers. I will try to weed out the time wasters and those who are clearly unsuitable, before I send them on to you.
Buyers will then contact you after speaking to me, and hopefully arrange a successful visit. You will be able to call us and discuss progress or ask for advice at any time. This method makes the selling process much easier, as you don't worry about attracting the buyers. You will receive calls from people who have been through me first and should be prepared to see a horse who has been very accurately described. (Warts and all!) This prevents time wasters, who generally turn up without enough prior information on a horse.
After my assessment I will of course recommend your horse to certain buyers if I consider it will suit their purpose. This very often gives buyers much more confidence in a sale as they realise I don't want to risk my own reputation on recommending any unsuitable horse to them!
These methods are of course least unsettling for your horse as he / she remains at home. This basic assistance packages are most suitable for those who have no experience in selling horses and are perhaps finding the whole situation quite difficult.
Basic 2 is also very suitable for busy people who don't have time to chase buyers and go through the rigmarole of wasting hours on the phone to people who don't follow up. I will do the chasing and send suitable potential buyers to you.
We are very sympathetic to your feelings and completely understand that having to sell your horse is often a heartbreaking decision to make.
We will be there with you throughout the process with constant support and advice on the phone or email.
The timescale in which you can expect to sell your horse will vary depending on the horse your selling. We can speculate during the assessment as to how easily your horse will sell. Sometimes it may take 5 weeks, one recent client sold her horse within 5 days.
The assessment is absolutely crucial, so that I may be confident in the animal I am recommending. If your horse becomes ill or lame during the course of this service you must inform me and it may be necessary to postpone the service. There may be minimal additional charges in this situation.
This service is generally very successful indeed. Your choice to use this service should be based on discussions with us and recommendations from our previous clients. We make no guarantee's other than we always do our up most to maintain our excellent client satisfaction record.
*In some rare cases it may be necessary to charge a little extra for further advertising if the horse does not sell within 4 weeks.
You will pay no extra for the actual service.
Basic assistance 3.
Approx £375 inclusive of £100 ad costs.
This service involves the previous two packages, but i will meet with potential buyers and attend the viewings. You will be informed of any viewings due to take place and may attend if you wish. I will need to assess your horse more than once to enable me to provide this service as I need to know the horse as well as I reasonably can. This package is only available to people within 50 miles of my base. Call me to discuss this option.
Contact me for a quote on the Basic Assistance packages, and we can have a chat about your situation.

Full assistance in selling your horse.
The Equine Agent Saver sales package.
Occasionally I am able to take horses on to my yard for sales livery. This service is offered at my discretion, according to availability.
As always an assessment visit is needed first and foremost.
If I agree to take your horse on then you can either pay for the weekly keep and training, and then I will take 10% of the sale price. This is the traditional sales livery which most people are rightly worried about as costs can stack up.
Or I may agree to take your horse on and provide the 'Equine Agent saver sales package.'
This package works by way of an agreement between yourself and The Equine Agent. An assessment is crucial so I may work out what price I can expect to achieve for your horse. From this, we will agree that you take £x (a specified amount of money) from the final sale price.
The Equine Agent will keep anything made above this amount to pay for the livery training exercise advertising and sale commission.
This 'Saver sales package' option is very popular. It means you are guaranteed an agreed sum of money, and the livery / training costs don't escalate out of control. (You don't pay any!) This service requires your signature on a contract, as well as confirmation of your horses insurance.
The contract may be reviewed at a date determined by The Equine Agent and re negotiated if circumstances require. This will only happen if the horse has not been sold within the estimated time scale stated on the contract. We do work to keep your costs to a minimum, and the best part of this service is that WE take the risk.
Please be aware that without a realistic valuation on the horse, I am unable to help. If I don't think I will cover my time and costs then it is not viable for me to help you. This service is only available at my discretion where I have space on my yard.
Please contact me for more details, or send me your postcode so I can quote you for the initial assessment viewing. If you would like to call for a chat, please do. 07508 778955 Copyright © 2009 - 2010 Ellen Chapman. All rights reserved. |
